Review of The Date Farm
Put your seatbelt on because this is going to be quite the ride. Date Farm, written by Jack Winnick, does not disappoint. This action novel has nonstop excitement, adventure, and action from beginning to end.
Our heroes, Lara and Uri, are back together again on another terrorism-related adventure. The newly married couple is on a long-earned vacation at Lara’s family farm in Ohio. While relaxing at the farm, they are contacted and told their help is needed because terrorists have attacked a Beverly Hills mall.
The devastating attack by Iranian suicide bombers has put the nation on edge. Young adults gathered for a dance rave when the bombers attacked the mall dressed as attendees. Uri and Lara must help discover how this attack happened and who planned it.
Following the attack in Los Angeles is another attack in New York City. Terrorists have taken control of the Federal Reserve and Chase Manhattan buildings. The US believes the terrorists are after the gold. But are they?
Homeland summons the agents again to help capture the terrorists. While trying to apprehend the terrorists, Uri and Lara are taken hostage along with others. They escape and return to their home base to find out their assignment is much more involved than they thought.
Uri and Lara go undercover as peasants at a date farm in Iran to try and recover the material stolen from the Federal Reserve in New York City. The farm manager, Mazdak, welcomes them. He is enamored with Uri and Lara and gives them each a job almost immediately.
Time passes quickly at the farm because of the hard work. They are rewarded for their patience when some crates are delivered late at night and unloaded into an outbuilding. Eventually, they inspect the building and discover that the stolen materials from the Federal Reserve are in that building. Now what? The agents have to let someone know. They get a message to their handlers. Homeland tells them to stay undercover until the stolen merchandise is retrieved. Will they succeed at staying undercover? Will their real identities be revealed? You have to read the book to find out.
I enjoyed the high-energy action in this book. Jack Winnick keeps his audience guessing what will come next. There are secret operations that surprise you throughout the book, but you need to stay alert.
I highly recommend this book to readers that enjoy military-based action novels. The graphic description of the death and terroristic acts of violence at the beginning of the book was not enjoyable to me. Once I got past that part, I settled in and enjoyed the story.
The main thing I didn’t like was that this author tends to go into too much detail when describing the military actions and the weaponry. Some people may find that appealing, but I found it distracting from the storyline.
I gave this book a five out of five stars because it is impeccably written and professionally edited. I liked how the author touched on the romantic relationship sprinkled throughout the book between Uri and Lara. He also keeps you on your toes with the many twists and turns. Like I said earlier you will want to tighten your seat belt for one crazy ride. Just remember, there is always more going on behind the scenes.
Date Farm is a great adventure story which I strongly recommend.
