Review: The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak by Brian Katche
I just want to tell you guys that this book is marvellous! I finished it in two days, which is awesome because I rarely finish a book that fast these days. That describes how enjoyable and fast-pace the book is.
It consists a lot of elements that every reader should be able to relate themselves with. Zak is just a teenage boy who apparently is in love with fictional characters. He loves being a geek like most of the readers. Zak is a character that makes the whole book 'speaks' to the readers. We know him and we understand him for that matter.
The author, Brian Katcher even use the reference to the Hunger Games trilogy, which makes me love the book even more. And I am very sure, a lot of sci-fi and fantasy reader out there gonna love this book because Katcher describes a life of a geek precisely.
The conflict is well-resolved. It is a bit of a cliffhanger, but, personally, I think that is good enough. Katcher gives enough information on what happen to the characters right after the event. The ending is short but somehow, satisfying. One thing about the book is that it focuses on the present. The book tells you about a week events. That's all. The story does not go further than that. At first, I thought it might annoy me, but, surprisingly, it didn't. Other people might find it a bit slow, but, the whole story works very fine with me.
I would say that the characters are the best part in this book. They are all real-life characters that you can relate to. As a reader, I actually have an emotional attachment to everyone in the book. I understand everything they did. Ana's worries, Zak's carelessness and Clayton's sense of wonder kick in in all the right places. The characters work very well with each other and it does make you feel good. It makes me realize that that is how reality works.
Because of the title of the book, I believe it will be very hard for me to not remember the two main characters. They are very close to my heart and thanks to anyone who happened to come out with the title, you make it even much easier for me to remember the whole thing.
However, I found myself not thinking about the book enough. When I closed the book, my mind just don't get there again. I'm not sure why, but my theory says maybe it is due to my continuous reading activity. I stopped only a few times to get some of my works done and then, I get back to it as soon as I can.
Did I mention the funny parts of the story? All the jokes are so hilarious!!
Just so that you know, I cried a bit at the ending and laughs a lot at different pages. The jokes just get to me very well and I loved it!
Obviously, I'm suggesting everyone to read this book. It's very simple, very easy to get into and also, it has everything! It gives you new knowledge, it also can make you reflect on your life and teach you that everyone is special in their own way. This book is very good, at least to me. It surely makes its way to my favorites of the year!
