The Adventure of Marina and Ren: The Comet by VS Cook was about Marina's discovery of her magic and how the comet played a role in the discovery. At the age of six, Marina discovered she could do magic and bring inanimate things to life. However, a problem lurked when she mistakenly transformed her "Mamma" into a bird to prove to her that she had magical powers. There, she discovered the world she knew had changed. She took her little brother, Ren, the dog, Ken, and "Mamma" (bird) on a journey to find their "Pappa."

The book is short and comprehensive. The author avoids unnecessary descriptions and keeps everything relevant to the book's title. The story's pacing maintains the reader's interest. This strategy is effective because children only have to go through short pages to get to the story's end.

I also like that the chapters were short. The longest chapter is about four pages long. It allows readers to take quick pauses and reflect on each chapter before moving to the next one. It makes the book a fantastic educational tool. Teachers can read it to children in short chapters without boring them out with a long read.

The book offers an enjoyable and imaginative experience. It has magical elements, relatable characters, and exciting adventures. It suits young readers who love adventure, wonder, and exploration.

Unfortunately, there were no illustrations in the book. Illustrations would have played a role in guiding the reader's imagination of the book's contents. It paints a picture of the text to them. That way, the story is hard to forget. For a children's book, the concept of illustration is essential.

The all-text nature of the book makes it suitable for adults who love children's books. The book is professionally edited, and I rate it a four out of five. One star is removed because of the absence of illustrations.

I can imagine her mother telling her that it was okay to think she had magical powers, and this led to the accident. I want to read this book because even though I know it's a children's book, I want to know how the issue was resolved. For me, this is what will make or break the plot. The lack of illustrations should, however, be addressed.
