In 1892, during one of Nikola Tesla's lighting exhibits, there were some technical problems which caused it to collapse and kill a young woman named Allefra. Wedderburn had developed feelings for Allefra and her death made him determined to avenge her. After encountering Tesla and his electricity, he realized that electricity and all that it would bring, was not good for him and people of his nature. A rivalry between Tesla's alternating current electricity and Edison's direct current broke out. Wedderburn is unseated and soon they must put aside their rivalries and fight their common enemy.

Kill the Night by Terry Mark is a historical fiction novel that also incorporates fantasy and horror. At first, I thought it was just a historical novel showing the life of some of the most influential inventors in the modern age of electricity. However, a twist in the middle of the book made me realize that this was a work of fiction. The book is well-edited which shows that a professional did a wonderful job with it.

I appreciate that this book is well-organized. The author starts each chapter/interlude by showing the time and place of the scenes, which helped me to understand the story better. The characters and scenes are well-developed and the author takes his time to describe the scenes during this time period (1892-1893), which allowed me to imagine them vividly and made the book engaging.

The book also portrays how great inventors get inspirations to create things. It shows what took place inside Tesla's lab and what forced him to create some of his inventions. There are technical details in this book, which shows that Terry Mark did a good job researching.

Notable historical figures are referenced in this book such as Mark Twain, Thomas Edison, and Nikola Tesla. The story's pace is slow at the beginning part and fast-paced in the last part, making the overall pace perfect. The author has a good plot-building and narration style. However, I have a small dislike which is that it has some gruesome scenes involving taking lives, which I didn't enjoy reading.

With all the mentioned points above, I conclude that this book deserves a perfect 5 out of 5 star rating. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy historical fiction, especially in the Industrial Revolution setting. I also recommend it to aspiring inventors as they may learn something from the character of Nikola Tesla.
