Lost By Donnielle Tyner

Lost by Donnielle Tyner is her debut novel suited for young adults. Readers who enjoy fantasy novels with a touch of romance would like this book. This book reminded me of the X-Men in the first few chapters, with the appearances of the characters and living at a school to improve their Talents.

Over 100 years ago, a meteorite crashed into Earth and released a gas that changed the DNA of humans exposed. It altered their appearance and left them with Talents. Now separated from the Norms, Caelian’s are living in fear of being hurt by them. Not all Norms are bad, but you never know who is against you.

Sadie is an orphan and is living at St. Vincent’s, an orphanage for Caelian children who weren’t wanted by their families. All Sadie has left are her friends at school, and two Norms, Michael and Lacy. Both her parents are dead, and now so is her boyfriend. Sadie feels like a defect because she is Talentless. That is until she meets Kian, a Caelian who awakens her deadly Talent. Kian brings secrets from Sadie’s past to the surface and when he does, bad things happen. Sadie discovers her Talent in a dangerous way, exposing herself to those who want her captured. Sadie’s grandfather is after her and that is the last thing anyone wants. He will stop at nothing to get to her. Sadie is now on a mission to end his power and keep her friends safe in the process.

I really enjoyed this book. It hooked me from the first chapter and I had a hard time putting it down. Everything, from appearances of characters to locations, were explained thoroughly and I was able to picture what was happening. I experienced many emotions throughout this book, from happiness to sadness, to fear for the characters. The action that was going on had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened next. The ending of the book was great. It opened the door for further stories in the series in which I am very interested in reading.

I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. Its storyline was great and kept enough action happening to keep me interested. Although there were a few grammatical errors, it didn’t hinder my understanding of the book. I would be extremely interested in reading any other stories by Donnielle Tyner.
