Review of Man Mission
Man Mission: 4 Men, 15 Years, 1 Epic Journey by Eytan Uliel is a story about four men who travel to different places each year to catch fresh air and enjoy themselves away from their everyday activities. The four had been friends since childhood and helped each other navigate through life. There are also stories about their personal lives incorporated into the story.
Sam and Eytan had been friends since they were in law school. They met when Eytan was looking for someone to go with him to the Food Fair on campus. Daniel and Alec had claimed that they were too busy. Eytan shared his dream of adventure with Sam, and they realized that they had the same interests. After graduating, they decide to make their dream a reality. In their adventures, they go hiking, biking, and kayaking, and they start by visiting New Zealand, followed by Japan and then Australia. They made rules to guide their everyday adventures. Get yourself a copy of this book to understand how they worked throughout their adventures.
I love the way the four men balanced family, career, and adventure. They were able to work and provide for their families while at the same time living their lives to the fullest through adventures. The male friendship shown by these characters was commendable. They were able to advise each other whenever one faced troubles, especially in family life. I like the way Sam would give a shoulder for one to cry on. When Eytan was fighting his separation from his wife, he was there for him. The author gave detailed descriptions of the adventures. He also included maps in the book that made me picture the men's journeys. This kept me active throughout the book, and I felt as if I was on the scene. It also made me yearn to have such a journey with my friends. The author also brought in some humor in the book. The part where Eytan was telling the story of his pregnant wife, who had made him go out in the middle of the night to get her baklava only to claim she had lost her appetite when the baklava was brought, made me laugh. The book is interesting.
There is nothing I disliked in the book. The way the author incorporated the characters' personal lives into the story made it more real. There are stories about the characters' families, which shifted me from imagination into the real world, where people live normal lives. The way he built the plot of the book, giving detailed descriptions of the events, is enough to give it a perfect rating. I, therefore, rate the book 5 out of 5 stars because of the excellent editing it has. I spotted no grammatical errors or typos in it.
I recommend this book to lovers of adventure. Those who doubt male friendships can also benefit from this book. I learned that it's okay for men to cry; it's okay for them to be emotional in their ups and downs; and we should support each other in all aspects of our lives. It contains a lot of profanity, and I would, therefore, recommend it to a mature audience.
