'No man is an island'. There are times when we encounter traumatic phase in our lives, be it a loss of dear one or an exhaustive episode at workplace. These phases often makes us disconnected from the social world and we tend to go back into our shell leading an isolated life. With minimum contact with those around us, our communication skills are affected and our self esteem goes down too.

We start losing the sense of belongingness towards others. There's a void created inside us which makes us feel empty. Once distanced from the essential relationship- the one with our inner self, chaos is what remains. This chaos doesn't stop with the mind. It starts affecting all parts of our life. After emptiness has disconnected a person from their inner self, all meaningful family relationships and social connections fall apart.

The feelings from long forgotten painful experiences and traumatic events don't disappear if we leave them unprocessed. They remain pushed down under the weight of additional unresolved traumas. The longer these feelings are unresolved, the more emotionally numb we start to feel.

Inability to connect leaves a bitter and empty feeling. These feelings worsen when we see our family and friends go on happily socializing without us.

The author has beautifully written down what is the difference between normal health and what is considered not normal regarding a person's mental health. The state of normal mental health can vary from reasonable to poor and depends on degree to which external factors are affected.

The author has analyzed and reviewed some of the necessary conversation skills to connect comfortably with others, whether they are friends, family or acquaintances. This book makes us reflect in our lives and gives us hope that with efforts and hard work, making connections with others is possible. The author also highlighted the importance of conversational groups and how they can help reestablish social connections. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 as it spreads positivity to the readers by being a ray of hope in the time of their darkness.
