If you are looking for a captivating, page-turning suspense book, then Somebody’s Watching You by Robin D’Amato is for you. This author perfectly keeps the reader on their seat by telling a story that contains love, the darkness of depression, manipulation, suspense, and so much more.

Melody met Jeff in a bar on Long Island. They were immediately attracted to each other and shared a common interest: music. Ten years later, Melody and Jeff are still together and have been married for several years. Jeff is no longer the happy, funny guy that Melody met that night in the bar. Instead, she often finds her husband sad, in bed, in darkness, or silently looking out the window. She and her mother-in-law, Marie, spend time talking about what they can do to help Jeff eat, get dressed, and function one day at a time.

One day Jeff takes a drive, but when he returns, Melody sees something she hasn’t seen in months: a smile on his face. Jeff starts telling her about meeting a guy and being introduced to the Church of Philomathics. Melody wants nothing more than to have her music-loving, funny, and spunky husband back and supports his new outlook, even though Melody has personal concerns regarding any organized religion. As Jeff’s journey continues, Melody starts seeing signs that maybe Jeff’s newfound religion might be a cult and becomes determined to make sure that her husband is not trapped in something he does not understand.

From the moment I picked up this book, I couldn’t put it down. The author does an amazing job at showing the struggles of depression and how easy it is to prey on and manipulate somebody who is already not thinking clearly. They also show how anybody can fall victim to a cult without realizing it and how it impacts everyone close to them.

This book is very well edited, making the flow easy to read without getting hung up on grammatical or punctuation errors. You can tell the author put a lot of thought and time into each character and their individual personalities. Dialogues are easy to follow, and it is easy to know which character is speaking without having to double-check who they are.

The author has a way of using the characters emotions and struggles to keep the reader connected to the book and wanting more. I particularly enjoyed that the author uses music throughout the book to create emotional connections and allow readers to understand the struggles the characters face. I feel that it brought the book more to life. I cannot think of anything that I dislike or could think of that should be changed. For these reasons, I would rate this 5 out of 5 stars.
