Review of The Solution is Political Revolution
In the book "The Solution is Political Revolution," author Jillion R. Rising offers a passionate critique of the current political system in America and convincingly discusses, albeit from a layman's perspective, many of the pressing issues that the United States in particular but also the world in general faces today. Rising's argument is that critical problems such as social injustice, immigration, the polarization and division within society, the impending financial collapse of the medical and pension systems, and even climate issues can all be positively impacted by a radical "revolution" driven by a broad-based, grassroots movement that unites citizens from all walks of life.
I give the book a rating of 5 out of 5 for the following three reasons:
1. Unlike many other books on this subject matter, which simply identify and discuss political, social, and financial issues, "The Solution is Political Revolution" offers a particular solution: a political revolution. Feasibility and sustainability of the solution aside, Rising's outline of a set of concrete steps that each American citizen could undertake is refreshing and empowering because it gives ordinary people agency. Rising argues that a political revolution can be achieved if ordinary people become informed and pro-active contributors to the political process. He calls upon ordinary people to engage in protests, strikes, and even civil disobedience in order to disrupt the established order and force governments and institutions to take substantial measures. Importantly, he does not advocate for shedding blood but rather draws inspiration from historical movements that have effectively orchestrated political shifts through non-violent opposition. Furthermore, he highlights the importance of decentralization and the empowerment of local communities. Last but not least, he admits that revolutions carry their own risks and challenges, but he argues that inaction far outweighs them.
2. The author is actively trying to burst the partisan bubbles in which Republicans and Democrats currently live. The ideological division between Republicans and Democrats, Rising argues, is deliberately exacerbated by the parties themselves and amplified by the media affiliated to them in order to prevent ordinary folks from engaging in a meaningful political conversation. Commendably, Risisng discusses most of his specific proposals through a "bipartisan" lens and does not portray either party as the villain. He is balanced enough to acknowledge that both parties are responsible for and directly benefit from the divided American citizenry.
3. The book is professionally edited and proofread. No major grammatical or typing errors distracted me from reading.
The only thing that I found slightly annoying in the introduction is the author's self-description as "the deliverer of truth."
