Dr. Berrah is a native of Aïn Beïda, a town in Algeria. This region of Algeria was fraught with violence as Berrah was growing up. With a supportive mom who is struggling to raise her children with everything she has after the death of her husband, one burning desire on Berrah's mind has always been the emancipation of his people. This spurred his decision to travel to France for his studies. In France, he was always the target of the government because of his involvement with Muslim student groups. He fled France and was later called by President Houphouët-Boigny to come and assist him in building peace between the Ivory Coast and the rest of the world. If you want to know why Berrah ran away from France back to Africa, where he practiced medicine briefly, and his life story afterward as a diplomat, read the rest of this book.

The one thing I like about the memoir "A Dream for Peace" by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is how the author painstakingly documented happenings in his life. Also, Berrah demonstrates the true definition of someone who accommodates all. This can be seen in how he raised funds to build a mosque and a church for the Muslim and Christian faith respectively. In the life of Berrah, I saw determination, dedication, and excellence. He was a very hard-working individual who excelled in almost every area of his life.

The only thing I dislike about this book is the volume, but since this is a memoir and encompasses the life of the author from childhood, 644 pages is not that much when documenting happenings in one’s life.

This book detailed how a man dedicated his life to building peace. The fact that I noticed zero errors while reading this book says how flawless the editors were. Judging from the above points, I am awarding this book a five out of five stars rating.

I recommend this book to politicians and, more especially, diplomats. The life of Berrah has a lot to say about how to navigate the terrain of building peace across nations.
