Love, Loss, and What We Ate: A Memoir by Padma Lakshmi

Post by fallingstar924 »

About two years ago, I read Salman Rushdie's book "Joseph Anton". After it, I was curious to learn more about Padma Lakshmi, mostly because he didn't paint her in the best light, but I do like her from Top Chef.

I didn't think much about it until recently when she released her memoir "Love, Loss, and What We Ate: A Memoir". I don't cook that much, but I love watching cooking shows, and learning about new recipes or ingredients.

What I really liked about this book is that Lakshmi talked about her life growing up in India and the United States; her modeling career in Europe; and her TV and book career - all while tying everything to food. She shares recipes for some items throughout the book - mostly ones that are incredibly important to her family.

An interesting read, Lakshmi shared some intimate details about her fight with endometriosis, her relationships, and other various milestones in her life. This information is more than what you would learn in the tabloids, and she also admits when she made mistakes and shared her views and what she learned from them. It's a great reminder that there is so much in life that we do wrong, but learn from. Her experience also reminded me to remember the small things - what we ate, who we love, and what we can focus on in the present.
