Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book by Kalliope Barlis is a must-have for every golfer. Part instruction manual and part sports psychology book; this handbook is most helpful. As an adjunct to her first book of the same title, this small book should be kept in your golf bag for quick reference during practice and play. Humorous at times, Barlis includes stories and quotations from coaches and famous players. She became a pro golfer in just two years after deciding to. Therefore, you can rest assured that her advice is sound.

The author used science about the brain and body to develop the practice exercises. I found the diagrams in the book informative and easy to understand. Barlis uses Neuro-Linguistic Programming in her advice to golfers. This technique uses your imagination to improve your golf game. She claims that visualization techniques are more effective than hitting hundreds of practice balls. She promotes quality of practice and not quantity. I also appreciated how she differentiates the difference between the brain and the mind.

I found the author's opinion and advice knowledgeable. Barlis says that you can change how you think at any time. She says, "The better you think, the better you golf." I agreed with her judgment that golf is the most difficult game on the planet. Also, humans are not robots, so there are no perfect swings. There was some repetition; however, it could have been intentional to help the reader retain the information.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I found the brevity perfect for a pocket-book. At the same time, it contained detailed information, especially regarding reading the slope of greens. Barlis shares expert knowledge of how grass growth and the grain of the grass will affect your putts. I can't think of anything I would want to improve in the book other than the text had a few errors that need correction.

I highly recommend this book for golfers of any skill level. The Neuro-Linguistic Programming principles in the book certainly could be used in other sports or circumstances. I'm looking forward to reading the other book from Barlis of the same name.
