Title: The Origin of F.O.R.C.E.
Author: Sam B. Miller II
Genre: Sci-Fi
Summary: Thirty light years away from Earth, the alien race known as the Chrysallaman are seeking new planets to inhabit and conquer...and Earth appears like a jewel ripe for the taking. In 1947 an alien spacecraft is brought down by the U.S. military in Roswell, New Mexico. The only survivors of the skirmish are a handful of soldiers and a young alien child. But this skirmish was just the foretaste of what's to come. People are gathered. Solutions are begun. And so is born the Origin of F.O.R.C.E.!
This story was one of the most rounded out I've seen. Nothing was left undone. From zero idea what they were doing to the creation of Earth's defense, the characters move through amazing discoveries and plot twists! And everything in between was well done. The span of the book and it's cast were what I found impressive. A time frame is set and followed through and an adequate amount of progress happens within that frame.
I was pretty fascinated with the plot from the get-go. From incorporating existing alien theories and clues (such as Roswell, New Mexico) to coming up with extremely detailed objects (the alien technology), everything is well thought out and handled. The adventure was fun and interesting too. Set just after World War 2 there was a good amount of history in the setting and it spanned more than one country. The effects of the war was even a plot point.
The cast was large and a little hard to keep track of sometimes, but engaging and I loved the depiction of the alien. It was unusual and nice. As I'm always looking for stories and characters like that I really enjoyed his character.
Unfortunately I felt like many of the characters themselves and most of the villains, were a little shallow. The author didn't allow enough depth to them and they therefore came off as one-dimensional. Despite this, the characters were still likable.
I give The Origin of F.O.R.C.E. 3 out of 4 stars. I would have given it 4 but on top of the character's flaws there were a few grammatical errors that couldn't be placed on poor formatting on the Kindle. Even so, this was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to the next installment!
