Review of Sent to Watch
[Following is a volunteer review of "Sent to Watch" by David J. Lebenstein.]
"Sent to Watch" by David J. Lebenstein, and I can confidently say that it deserves a solid 5-star rating. This captivating science fiction novel took me on a journey through an intricately woven narrative that beautifully combines elements of diplomacy, strategy, and human emotion within the backdrop of an intergalactic setting.
One of the standout features of the book is its ability to shed light on the political atmosphere and the expected post-war turnout, providing readers with a unique perspective on what life was like for ordinary people during those times. This is not your typical tale of fancy balls and the lives of wealthy nobles, but rather an immersive dive into the everyday struggles and triumphs of those who lived in this complex world.
The book's inclusion of military details is both thorough and insightful, but it doesn't overpower the central focus on the lives of regular people and their daily events. The characters, particularly Ori and Urelt, are written with depth and authenticity, and their intertwined relationship with Unni adds an emotional layer that keeps you engaged from start to finish.
The plot itself revolves around the Interplanetary Intelligence Service and their crucial mission of observing Earth 48 for potential inclusion in the Confederation of Civilized Planets. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading the book. I didn't find anything bad in it. Although I noticed that the author could not speak with more ease and naturalness throughout the novel, this is not a big issue. So, I don't see any reason to give it a lower rating. In my opinion, the book deserves a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant sci-fi experience. David J. Lebenstein's work is a testament to his storytelling prowess, and I eagerly anticipate any future books in this series.
The editing of the book is flawless, which adds an extra star to it.
