ARA Review by M. M. Elmendorf Hopson of Welcome to the Wollops

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

Welcome to the Wollops is 5 out of 5 stars for me.

With colorful and engaging illustrations, each page dedicated to a different letter in the alphabet, and a rhyme scheme that is fun to read silently but even more delightful to read aloud (with challenges to read faster and faster a given), this book is both entertaining and informative. It introduces a number of good vocabulary words as it works through the alphabet, and by doing so with rhyme, it makes it doubly helpful for readers to learn about the deeper nuances of the English language.

Purchased on Kindle ebook and while it would be a lovely hardback or paperback to have in the library, considering I travel a lot, the ebook was lovely as I could pull my phone out to read it with nieces and nephews easily enough instead of relying totally on the paper (though I personally prefer tangible copies of books).

A lover of all things rhyming and, in equal measure, illustrations that take up a good bulk of the page and that are complex yet fun enough to engage young readers, this book hit the spot. I adored how attention was paid to each letter in the alphabet, hence the name of the book.

As stated earlier, the illustrations were colorful, engaging, and multi-layered so even when younger readers are listening, they still have something to focus on. They're also engaging enough that even after reading all the way through the pages were turned back and additional stories were told about what was happening in each picture.

The rhyme schemes were easy and fun and while not having the ending words capitalized and bolded threw me off a bit at first I soon got into the rhythm of the formatting. Recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the old Seuss books and other books akin to that.
