What an amazing fictional book! I became engrossed in the novel Nimue: Freeing Merlin right from the start. This tale was such a joy to read. The main characters, Nimue and Merlin, are portrayed so interestingly. As the story opens, Nimue is having a dream, or is she? Nimue's mother has taught her that there are times when the curtains between the Otherworld and ours are thin. Nimue's mom is an expert in Celtic Mythology and has passed her knowledge on to her daughter. The mother and daughter are preparing to go to London. It is there that the adventures begin. Nimue is called a Mage in her dream. That name continues throughout the story. A Mage, as I learned, is someone who knows how to perform magic and cast spells. As this plot unfolds, we start to see the different mythical people that enter her life. She is looking to find Merlin. What happens when she finally meets him? Why does she have a vision of him frozen in a tree? Merlin establishes the balance between heaven and earth and between darkness and light. But how can he do that if he is frozen? Is Nimue sent to save him or bear his child? At the end of this wonderful story, Nimue realizes that we are lost if we experience inner division in our lives.

This tale is full of twists and turns. I loved how we had different scenes and people displayed throughout the story. The author, Ayn Cates Sullivan, uses animals to describe actions and places. It was very helpful to me by allowing me to visualize what was going on. I discovered the glossary in the end of the book, to be very helpful.

There was nothing distasteful about this novel. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the storyline. The author made the characters and settings very interesting. The book had very few errors so it made it enjoyable to read.

I give this book five out of five stars. There were not many errors and the storyline is so wonderful. I found the characters to be sensational. I found myself trying to anticipate what was going to happen next. Although I am not very familiar with mythology and magic, I was very invested in Nimue and how she was living between the two worlds of earth and the Otherworld.

I feel the audience of all readers would find this book enjoyable and pleasing. There were some references to sex but nothing too explicit. For those looking for a great book to read about the Otherworld and magic, I highly recommend this book.
