Mark Zullo's Hard Journey of the Heart: Jesse's Story is a romantic story about Jesse, a guy with an enormous, ravenous heart who yearns for romance at all times. However, Jesse is still plagued by flashbacks to passionate former relationships with guys like Carlos and Agustin, both at home and in Mexico. Some with passion, some foolishly, Jesse loved them all—until each relationship ended in self-destruction. Will Jesse’s complicated life, nagging self-doubts, and his fervent search for lasting happiness ever come to pass?

I was enlightened by reading this book. It revealed to me how much other guys continuously fall in love, no matter how massive the heartbreak from their previous relationship was. I like the spontaneity of Jesse's relationships. Having fun with strangers and not leaving any attachments afterwards. As one of the people who wishes to be fluent in Spanish, reading its sentences in between thrilled me. Mark Zullo was thoughtful to have written the book in a way that even non-Spanish speakers could still follow the book smoothly. The flashbacks disclosed in the story succinctly helped me understand Jesse from his tender age. Feeling weird about his identity. Social expectations about football.

In conclusion, I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. The book contains gay romantic scenes that some people may not be comfortable reading. Each chapter begins by giving the context of the events, which increased my readability. This is in the light of “The Return to the Cliff, Dennis 2004, Jessy 37.” With such an opening, I could not help but read page after page, eager to know what Dennis would be doing with Jesse. The book incorporated dialogue between characters, making it lively and relatable. Melissa tossing her hair back time and again left me giggling alone. I found nothing to dislike about this book. It was carefully edited for grammar, and I encountered no typos. I recommend the book to gay guys. Romance fans would also enjoy this book.
