Review of Island Games
Island Games by Caleb J. Boyer
Two teenage kids, Matthew, and Ryan, fall into an abysmal confusion as they cannot remember anything about their past and how they have arrived on an unknown island from their living room. They head towards the edge of the island, manage a fire, and then lay down on the beach contemplating deeply their present condition. Then they remembered the huge cargo boat that they had seen in the ocean just beyond the beach and planned to reach there for provisions and help the next day.
The next day they try to reach the ship fighting the chilling ocean water and the clutches of sharks. Finally, they can manage some food and other provisions.
But fate throws them one after another danger as the boat starts to sink the next morning. The boys start swimming in the freezing water again to reach the beach.
Strange things go on happening with them. From the island jungle, they are shifted into a laboratory with a locked door and then to another part of the island.
What is happening with them? Who is playing the prank? How will they survive on that island surrounded by deadly volcanos? Is it a part of an island game?
"Island Games" by Caleb J. Boyer reminds me of William Golding’s “Lord of Flies.” Golding’s message is different from Caleb’s but the backdrop of a lonely island with some teenage boys stirs my memory.
The narrative is gripping from the start, drawing readers into the disorienting and perilous situation the protagonists find themselves in. Boyer's storytelling skillfully blends suspense and mystery, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat throughout the book.
One of the notable strengths of "Island Games" is the well-developed friendship between Matthew and Ryan. The challenges they face not only test their survival instincts but also the depth of their bond.
The struggle they undertake to survive strengthens their bond of friendship and teaches them the power of unity. Boyer explores themes of resilience, loyalty, and the importance of friendship in the face of adversity.
The author's writing style is efficient and effective, propelling the story forward at a pace that keeps readers engaged. The vivid descriptions of the island and its surroundings create a tangible sense of place, enhancing the overall reading experience.
Caleb J. Boyer, an Award-Winning International Bestselling Author, highlights his storytelling prowess in "Island Games." The book's editorial efficiency ensures a seamless reading experience, allowing readers to immerse themselves fully in the unfolding adventure.
Moreover, Boyer's commitment to fostering a love for reading, writing, and entrepreneurship through his organization, Read-Write, Inc., adds a commendable layer to his authorial journey.
I have no objection to this book. I enjoyed Boyer’s teenage story even at this ripe age. So, without any doubt "Island Games" deserves a solid 5 out of 5 rating for its thrilling plot, well-crafted characters, and seamless narrative that keeps readers hooked from start to finish. Caleb J. Boyer's debut novel is a testament to his talent, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the next instalment in this fast-paced Young Adult series.
