The Bonding by Imogen Keeper

What happens when two completely different beings meet and get bonded? The Bonding goes full throttle into all the details, and while the sex scenes tend to stretch the limits of far-fetched, it fits perfectly into the storyline. Keeper describes each scene with such vividness that it is hard not to feel like you’re just standing nearby and watching it all unfold.

It’s captivating to the point where you empathise with the main characters, and wonder if they will be able to survive every challenge thrown their way – family disagreements over coupling with a different species to the capability of childbirth. No stone is left unturned, and rightly so. Emotions run rampant with anger, withdrawal and burning desire. Romance genre lovers will definitely love the story and how it’s been painted to almost perfection. Do note though that this is sci-fi romance in every sense of the phrase, so be prepared for an unusual romantic interlude.

The characters in the story have their own strengths and flaws, yet the way they meld into each other is truly captivating. I have read many romance novels and find that this aspect is lacking, so it was a breath of relief to see that Keeper paid attention to not only kisses and acts of passion, but on the chemistry between Nissa and Tam.

My rating for this book is 3 out of 4 stars, simply because I felt that there were certain scenes towards the final pages of the book which could have been elaborated a bit further. It lacked the final punch I was looking for, and seemed more rushed, which is a pity as I truly enjoyed reading the book. There were certain parts which I found in the middle of the book which were a tad lengthy, and it defrayed my wanting to continue at one point. The story on a whole is otherwise solid. Excerpts of Keeper’s second book were added into the e-book, and it did tingle enough curiosity for me to want to reach out and read her next book.

All in all I find The Bonding worth a romantic read, and I’m truly glad that I did so. The storyline is soaked all things sex and about an unbreakable bond between two alien beings, yet it doesn’t go over the bridge where it doesn’t make sense at all anymore. A truly good read.
