“Nowhere to Hide” is the third novel in Jude Austin’s “Five Worlds Series.” The second book ended with Kata (formerly Kalin Thomas) in the hospital on the planet of Akkhen and recovering from serious injuries he sustained in a draka attack. In addition, he is working to address the trauma of many years of emotional and verbal abuse by his parents, followed by two years of torture and forced incarceration at the Gen-Tech lab. Meanwhile, Tau is carving out a new life for himself and restoring an abandoned house on Atthiras.

The good news is that Tau and Kata are now safe from Gen-Tech. However, Kata's parents are stalking him and a powerful Trandellian official wants him dead. Meanwhile, a large group of mercenaries are on the planet Atthiras and preparing to attack the field hospital, and Tau is in harm's way. In an effort to keep Kata safe, the Akkenian military sends him and Captain Morgan to find four missing teen girls on a space station.

The tension continues to build as enemies on two fronts threaten our main characters. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading! Would Kata and Tau be able to survive these threats and find a way to create comfortable lives for themselves? I encourage you to join them in their adventures and find out how they fare.

The stellar character development and creative and detailed world-building from Austin’s first two books continue in her latest addition. I especially enjoyed Austin’s description of Captain Morgan's hometown, Khunat, which is built completely out of giant hollowed out seed pods attached to the branches of enormous trees. Although Austin describes a reality that is very different from our own, I found her writing very easy to connect with and understand.

I highly recommend both this book and the rest of the “Five Worlds Series.” This novel carefully addresses the effect that trauma has on a person's mental and physical health, while bringing up ethical questions of what it means to be truly human. The novel was also extremely well written and edited, with no discernible errors. I cannot think of any ways it could be improved. For all these reasons, I give “Nowhere to Hide” a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I can't wait for the next book to come out!
