Roadmap to the End of Days is an apocalyptic non fiction book based mainly on judaism and statistics. Friedmann uses the past to literally calculate the expected time of the end of the world. He starts with creation and discusses different eras in jewish history and shows how using such available facts we can pinpoint the expected time of the return of the Messiah.
The book is well researched and well written. I was so engrossed in reading the story of Jacob and Essau that I only noticed that my nose was dripping after a drop fell on the table! That is when I noticed my mouth was also agape! I found the book that interesting. I yawned while reading the tables. Maths were never quite my strong subject, but the tables and the explanations thereof clearly bring out his arguments.
I think all those who can read would have a good time reading Roadmap to the End of Days. It is informative, interesting and relevant. Christians will find new insights on Bible stories and teachings. The people from the East will be pleasantly surprised by their connections to the Jewish patriarchs. With the many apocalyptic movies, everyone is concerned about what will befall them and the world at large, hence the book should attract a wide audience.
That said, being a Christian I found it disturbing that, though clearly in the new testament the lineage of Jesus is narrated to show He is the son of Joseph and of David, Friedmann does not even address these facts. Further, in my opinion, the fourth war with the Amaleks was worn by the Lord Jesus. He defeated the devil at the cross and provided a way by which man could now have the Divine in his heart.
I also opine that the main reason for division of the Kingdom of Israel after the reign of King Solomon was spiritual compromise through idolatry and intermarriage with pagans. Being a contravention of the command that they shall have no other God besides Yhwh, they were punished by God. The failure to follow God’s laws resulted in poor leadership, unrest and subsequent invasions as explained by Friedmann.
I don’t believe anyone is able to give the exact timing of the end of days, which the author attempts to do, but one is able to look at the times and knowing the signs of the coming of those days, conclude that it is at hand. All in all, it is a good read, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. This is because I enjoyed reading it, I have read it twice and I will keep it as a reference book when I want to read on the topic.
