Book Review: Followed my Star by A.R. Annahita
Followed my Star is a non-fiction book that looks to propose a new age philosophy of looking into a myriad of problems affecting human beings in the world throughout its storyline by A. R Annahita. This book gets across a number of areas including religion, politics, ethnics, spirituality, economics, and world peace. Annahita’s main arguments are based on lack of balance in these areas among others and how finding the right balance in these spheres of life can lead to a person’s inner calmness and peace which translates to world peace. The book is the third in the series Followed my Star but it can be read independently without making references to the previous series.
According to the author human beings go to extremes of bad or good or create systems that create lack of the right balance in handling issues that face the society. In so doing they prevent others from becoming successful in life or even stamp on other people’s rights. For instance from the following excerpt “It is very obvious to see in some other Religions like the Quran. Women always have been dominated by the male race. Wearing a veil, having no rights in society and to only being limited to be a housewife.” Here the author tries to highlight how religions seemingly misuse religious books that are supposed to make life better for all to infringe on the rights of others more so women.
The book touches on and tries to tackle a number of issues as perceived by the author. Each of the 19 chapters of Followed my Star has a theme though at times the themes seem to override each other. The many issues the author tries to tackle form the many topics the author writes about including ethnics, religion, greed, abortion, healthcare among others. The topics begin broadly before narrowing down to more specific areas of concern.
The major issue with Annahita is that of trying to tackle many problems in a simple book. I feel that since the author is writing Followed my Star in series she would have done much better by tackling a single topic in each of her series releases. This being the third of her releases she would have been tackling a third problem and writing on a third topic. This would make the book more attractive and the themes more convincing. Another issue is that that of contradiction where the author recognizes that there is God but doesn’t approve of the books inspired by the same God. We can see that from this excerpt:
“Don’t let the Bible or the Quran hinder you from the connection to God.”
Overall Followed my Star is a good read. I give it a rating of 2 out of 4 since it is a good reading for those pursuing new age philosophies as the author herself proposes her new age personal philosophy to the readers mostly those of Christian and Muslim faith as the Bible and the Quran have majorly been made reference books.
