Review of EMA
This book sheds light on technology and its impact on climate change. The effects of climate change are seen as the author describes how the scorching sun is penetrating the thick air making it difficult to breathe and most city inhabitants avoid the increasingly frequent heatwaves by preferring to travel through the innumerable urban meanders to enjoy the cool air of air conditioning. In the hive of activity, we are introduced to Jason who has decided to attend Minsky's conference.
Minsky aims at achieving a balance between environmental respect and social justice. He tries to use technology to create a balance in the ecosystem. He has been severely criticized for his lack of transparency and tendency to want to control everything. Some even persuade themselves that Minsky wants to create a society entirely governed by artificial intelligence. This is evident after we see demonstrators having anti-Minsky slogans outside the conference, opposing the use of artificial intelligence and technology to manage environmental problems. They saw this approach as an opportunity to allow governments and corporations to avoid their responsibilities in the face of climate change instead of taking concrete steps to reduce its impact
There is reduced freedom of expression evidenced by government legislation and mechanisms to verify whether information appears to be false or true. It was difficult to transmit information that differed from news without enduring severe sanctions and even imprisonment. People were thus afraid to express themselves freely for fear of reprisals creating a climate of mistrust in society.
I found this book intriguing since it not only provides readers with the advantages of modern technology but also its disadvantages. It reveals that hypersonic flights were banned because of the harmful effects of exhaust gases in the stratosphere. Jason's father died tragically in a road accident. While he was driving an autonomous vehicle at high speed a small animal suddenly crossed the road and the AI piloting of the car failed to react correctly. The vehicle deviated abruptly from its trajectory and collided violently with the structure of an overpass. His father unfortunately didn't survive. Lidia was also struck by a tragedy that left its mark on her vengeful character while she was young. Her parents lost their lives in a terrible rail accident leaving her orphaned. The derailment of the high-speed train was caused by an error in the AI-controlled steering system. She was later raised by her grandparents who instilled in her the importance of studying and succeeding at school.
The author emphasizes that Artificial intelligence is everywhere in our systems that we don't even realize it. I find the book remarkable. I didn't detect any errors while reading the book. It was exceptionally well-edited. The writing style is engaging and easy to follow. I had no dislikes as I read the book. I rate it 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 because it provides instances of how AI has been used in modern life. The entry to the auditorium had a digital identity chip that allowed everyone to be identified with their genetic gesture. After Jason is called by Laurent for a meeting in Paris, it is Sherlock, mi his artificial intelligence invention that tells him he has a phone call and even after connecting him to the call, a virtual representation of an individual appears before him. It also provides detailed information about Lidia. Jason and Lidia are accompanying Laurent to what appears to be his office. They pass a room where dozens of people are busy gesturing in the air. Although Jason couldn’t see, he knew they were busy navigating their augmented workstation. I was amazed by the power of AI in that you can change the flavour of drinks just by thinking about it It also talks about the current emerging issues of climate change and artificial intelligence in detail. I couldn't deduct any stars from my rating since I didn't find any reason to do so.
I would highly recommend this book to lovers of science fiction and those having a passion for the environment.
