Review of Apollo's Raven
Catrin, a spirited princess of the Cantiaci tribe, wrestles with hidden desires and a mysterious destiny. A prophecy foretells a "Raven" and a "Blood Wolf" rising to overthrow her father, King Amren. Catrin's life is far from ordinary. Not only is she a skilled warrior princess, but she also carries a secret burden—a prophecy that labels her the "Raven," destined to play a pivotal role in her kingdom's fate. This destiny becomes brutally clear when her banished half-brother, Marrock, returns with a thirst for power. Exiled for past transgressions, Marrock sees an opportunity for revenge. Marrying into a rival tribe and aligning himself with the encroaching Roman Empire, Marrock embodies the prophesied "Blood Wolf."
Catrin finds herself tasked with a seemingly impossible mission: breaking the curse cast upon her father by his vengeful ex-wife. To make matters even more complicated, she's assigned to guard a Roman prisoner, Marcellus, the handsome son of a powerful senator. Torn between her growing love for Marcellus, her loyalty to her family, and the weight of the curse, Catrin must choose her path. Will she embrace the power within and fight for her kingdom? Or will betrayal tear Britannia apart, fulfilling the prophecy and plunging the land into war?
Apollo's Raven by Linnea Tanner is packed with political intrigue and backstabbing. The complex web of alliances, betrayals, and power struggles keeps you guessing. You'll find yourself questioning who to trust and wondering who will emerge victorious. The perspective from which this historical fiction was told was incredible. I like that the book paints a rich picture of Celtic Britain on the cusp of Roman conquest. You'll experience the clash of cultures, the fierce warrior traditions of the Celts, and the political machinations of the Roman Empire. The story blends historical elements with Celtic mythology and a dash of magic. The prophecy of the Raven and the Blood Wolf adds a layer of intrigue and mystery, making you question the characters' destinies. The book is exceptionally well edited. It contains no major grammatical errors.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because it has a unique setting, a strong female protagonist, and a blend of history and mysticism that creates a compelling read. There are no drawbacks to this book. The blend of this book caters to readers who enjoy both historical fiction and fantastical elements.
