For my first book review on here, out of the selection available I decided to choose to read Raven's Peak which is book one of the World On Fire series . I picked this because it is written in a mixture of some of my favourite genres, it is part crime fiction and part supernatural/horror . I was attracted to the cover art because it has a Raven on it, I love birds and I also thought the synopsis sounded incredibly intriguing .

The book starts with the Reverend Arthur Vangeest, who has been, of his own choice, locked away in an old forgotten prison cell for five years . He punishes himself by whipping with a cat o' nine tails often because of his past regrets and deeds he did as part of the order . After a visit, from Frieda who requests his help, he decides it's time to come out of his cell into the world to aid Frieda and to take revenge for what happened to Abigail, who he thought of as his daughter .

A youth called Haatim gets caught up in the events accidentally due to his skills as a reporter/journalist . I really liked his character, he began in the story as a scared and inexperienced boy but as it progressed and with the care and guidance of Abigail he grows more confidence and is able to take care of himself against the dark forces that are after them . Haatim and Abigail's friendship develops as the book moves on . Their interaction is very entertaining to read and I look forward to continuing on with this series of books to read more about their adventures .

The other characters and the places in the book were well created . There were some very humorous conversation pieces which made me laugh . Lincoln Cole sets the scene very well and some parts of this book were really dark and creepy which was great . What happens as the story progresses is exciting, action packed with a few unexpected twists and turns . There are some very graphic gory parts that some readers may not enjoy . I am really hoping there will be more in the series as I very much like the writing style .

I read this book in just one sitting as I just couldn't stop turning the pages to see what happened next ! It did not disappoint at all .
I rated this book a 3 out of 4 I was happy with it but it ended in somewhat of a cliff hanger so I'm guessing there will be more in this particular series which I am excited about .

I highly recommend this book to any crime fiction, supernatural and horror fans .
