Review of Born To Rise
[Following is a volunteer review of "Born To Rise" by Lorna Blake.]
‘Born to Rise’ by Lorna Blake is a deeply inspiring memoir that recounts the remarkable journey of Lorna Blake, who defied life’s challenges. Lorna Blake’s story resonates with the strength of the human spirit and the power of perseverance. Warmth, passion, and love permeate Lorna Blake’s inspiring memoir. Through abandonment, abuse, and rejection, she emerged as a beacon of empowerment and success.
Lorna’s resilience profoundly moved and inspired me. Lorna’s extraordinary journey from despair serves as a beacon of hope and resilience. Her determination and courage motivate us to overcome our setbacks.
Lorna’s authenticity shines through in her storytelling, weaving humor, eloquence, and wisdom in anecdotes that captivate and inspire. Her vulnerability invites us to reflect on our struggles, fostering a sense of empathy and connection.
Lorna’s journey reminds us that our past does not define us. We all have the power to change the trajectory of our lives. Her journey from living in the ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica, to graduating from a university in Canada and being a mentor and coach is a testament to this.
In her raw and emotional memoir, Lorna delves into various poignant subjects. These include the grief of losing her maternal grandmother, the abuse and neglect by her parents, and the courage it took to break free from an unhealthy relationship. All of these experiences served as stepping stones that put her on her journey to success.
Lorna’s captivating storytelling, rich with vivid descriptions and personal anecdotes, held the reader’s attention from start to finish. One of the most memorable parts for me was the recount of the stories her grandfather shared, especially the chilling tales. It just stuck out to me as a memory that Lorna cherishes.
I did not dislike anything about the book; the editing was superb. I rate it a 5 out of 5.
The book portrays Lorna as exceptionally special; it is rare to view challenges as stepping stones. She is warm, and this book is an invitation to see her life and journey through her lens and connect with her. She fully accepts responsibility for her actions and decisions. It was a delightful read. I highly recommend it to everyone because of its ability to just pull you in. It’s like sitting down with a family member.
