Different from other self-help books, Dr. Rachel Sims' book "Are You Love Smart or Love Stupid?" is not a typical one. Even though it is not flowery, it directly goes deep into the trenches of modern love, where it brings a trench knife to cut through the entangled myths and misconceptions that normally ruin our relationships.

Sims's power relies on her ability to use a fresh mix of story and truth to overturn myths. She also addresses the "perfect partner" fantasy, wherein we tend to remain in the loop of unfulfillment by chasing a fantasy of love that does not exist in reality. She strikes a chord with her audiences; she interplays real experiences (with hilarious client anecdotes) and ties them to her lessons so they translate to the readers who must have been in the same dating situations.

Yet "Are You Love Smart or Love Stupid?" is far beyond simple myth-dispelling. Sims indicates the path for handling all the challenges of love in digital time. Through this book, she talks about the effect of social media on relationships, a topic frequently not found in traditional relationship books. This fresh perspective is priceless, as many are struggling to find love among the tons of structured online personas.

The pointedness is undoubtedly helpful, but the book leaves much unsaid about all the intricacies of relationships. Individual elements of love like attachment styles, emotional intelligence, and working through a conflict are the key areas in a relationship, but they are not talked about that much. It is the book’s strong suit to provide hands-on tips, but for those who crave a more theoretical base, it could feel more like a helpful starter than a gourmet dinner. The editing was really good; it did not turn me off other than the title, which I thought was too blunt. However, it would be acceptable to me, and no lower stars would be required for this book.

This book will certainly be on my 5 out of 5 shelf! Whether you are an experienced dater or a new smooth talker, in this book you will get effective tips to clear up the confusing world of love filled with humor and self-analysis.
