Review of E M P Honeymoon
In the captivating sci-fi novel E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer, readers are immersed in the adventures of Kelly and Tom Turbulo—a newlywed couple—alongside other intriguing characters. Their idyllic honeymoon on an island resort takes a dark turn when Kelly stumbles upon a dangerous terrorist group. Realizing the gravity of the situation, she reaches out to her brother, Senator Mike McBride, for help. Mike, in turn, seeks assistance from Assistant Director Joseph, a trusted friend. Together, they uncover a plot to attack North America, and their race against time to thwart the plan forms the heart of this gripping book.
In this gripping 16-chapter novel, readers are immediately drawn in by a suspenseful preface. The story unfolds in the United States, where Kelly and Tom—a newlywed couple—are enjoying their honeymoon in Honduras. Simultaneously, an undercover CIA agent is embroiled in a spy mission within the same country. Kelly stumbles upon a seemingly innocuous shop that, unbeknownst to her, serves as a secret base for a group of Koreans plotting to undermine the US. Leveraging their connections to influential figures and their expertise in national security, Kelly and Tom rally allies to protect their nation from imminent danger.
The novel seamlessly blends adventure and informative elements, creating an engaging reading experience. The inclusion of maps depicting the story’s location enhances its authenticity and precision. Personally, I found the detailed explanations of military terminology particularly fascinating—it expanded my understanding. Additionally, the fact that the book didn’t heavily rely on images didn’t detract from my enjoyment. The diverse cast of characters, each admirable and inspiring in their own way, further enriched the narrative.
The book provided valuable insights into the phenomenon of electromagnetic pulses and the potential threat posed by solar flares. The characters exemplified commendable qualities of teamwork and honesty. Personally, I had no issues with the book, even though occasional swear words didn’t bother me much. The editing was impeccable—I couldn’t spot any errors. I give this book a solid rating of 5 out of 5 stars. While it’s a great fit for fans of the crime and action genres, less experienced readers might find some of the concepts challenging. Overall, the author skillfully crafted this work.
