The Date Farm: Lara and Uri: Book 4, by Jack Winnick, is the second book I have reviewed by this author. This book was just as compelling, enthralling, entertaining, and ‘nail-biting’ as the first one!

I love the main characters, Lara and Uri, a married-secret agent couple, that often works together undercover for the U.S. Government. They bring enthusiasm, excitement, and chilling terror all at once to the storyline.

The narrative starts out with a gang of terrorists from Iran, who attack a mall in the U.S. Within two weeks, there was another attack across the country, that eventually brought the couple, undercover, to Iran. There are frightening, death-defying, circumstances in all the developments the author puts this couple through, which make the reader want to continue reading until the end! Lara and Uri’s family time together brings a touch of levity and coziness to the picture that helps create a home-style reality for the reader.

Lara and Uri travel from the U.S. West Coast to the U.S. East Coast, working hard to protect all citizens from the destruction of the terrorist gang. They are sent to Iran to recover what was stolen and break up the gang. Then the plot thickens! The reader is led through many ‘edge-of-the-seat,’ ‘nail-biting,’ scenarios that make us want to be right there with them.

The author’s concise and efficient style of writing is splashed with bits of descriptive color that bring the whole picture together in a simple and easy read. You get enough background information but not too much, to drag the storyline down.

The editing team did a fantastic job! There was some husband and wife suggestive lovemaking verbiage. Also, there was some descriptive violence, most of it in the beginning, to let the reader know how horrendous and desperate this attack was. As most people know, who have grown up in today’s world, the tragedy that ensued was gut-wrenching. I applaud the author for moving the storyline along. Even though terrorism was the focus, the reader was so involved with Lara and Uri’s completion of their assignment, that we were not led to dwell on the violence. I have given this book a 5-star rating for this reason, and I do not think it should be changed at all. This would be a great read for young adults through seniors!
