Will You Talk To Me?
A Story about the Hummingbird and His Wisdom

By Margie Carstens

This is an excellent little book. It starts with a little girl who lives by the ocean. She loves to gaze out her window to see the ocean's activity.
She could sit and watch the ocean all day (I know the feeling.) One day, as she looks out her window, she sees something out of the corner of her eye. What is it? It's a bird! A hummingbird! Did you know that the hummingbirds are the smallest birds in the world?
What lessons could this little guy teach us? Maybe the lesson is that size does not matter. Maybe.

Hummingbirds are fearless fighters who protect what they deem theirs, no matter the size of their opponent. The little girl sees this as self-confident and wonders how such a tiny bird can be so confident. The little girl asks the hummingbird, "Will You Talk To Me? And so it begins the girl's journey to learning self-worth. With all his wisdom, the hummingbird explains to the girl where to find confidence, how to know your self-worth, and, most importantly, what unconditional love is.

The part of the book I loved was when the hummingbird explained where confidence comes from. He learned not to compare himself to others. He is perfectly made. You are built perfect for being the way you are to be who you are. What a beautiful message for a child to hear early in their development.

The only thing that could enhance the experience of the book, and this is only my opinion, was the colors of the illustrations. This beautiful book has a wonderful message; it is worthy of bright, bold colors that shout out, "Look At Me." "I have something to tell you!" The pictures should be as wonderful as the message. But again, this is my opinion, and I respect that others have their own. Despite the color preference, this is a good book for you to read to your child.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I did not dislike one thing about it. There were a few editing issues, but no controversial content, violence, or bad behavior. It is simply a sweet, fun book that empowers your child, showing them they have worth. I highly recommend this book to parents with small children who want their children to know they are perfectly made. We each have something that is uniquely ours.
