Door Lock by Steven Ulysses Allen is an exhilarating, carefully thought-out book that I was excited to read among everything else.

The story begins with Aiden Perrymane and his family, Edith, Sarah, Eadric, and Osbert. They lived in Goznorvan, trying to make ends meet, until the unfortunate attack of the Vikings on their village. Aiden took what was left of his family and fled to Mozdeville village. Mozdeville village was a safe village that had not been attacked by the Vikings for some time. The people there were nice and welcomed them warmly. There, they meet Emie Zinnethush, a beautiful woman with dark powers. Eadric is fascinated by her beauty; however, she holds secrets he is just starting to discover. It was not long until the Vikings attacked, and strange beings arose to protect Mozdeville village. Fueled by loss and pain, Eadric is consumed with rage and an unsettling need to protect his family. This led to his search for the powers that lie in the dark, and nothing could have prepared him for the outcome. Some say the village is cursed, but is this truly a curse? What could be the consequences of gaining knowledge that should have been locked away? Find out by getting a copy of this book.

The first standout quality of this book is the pictures included in it. They were so finely drawn in black and white that it gave the book an aura. It was one of the parts of the book that I looked forward to. This book has a wide range of carefully crafted content that will keep the readers glued until they have finished the book. From Hethesi's story to Eisheth's and the many other events in the book, I also like Osbert's character. Even if he was not the main character, I loved seeing his childlike behaviour; it lightened the dark aura of the book.

Unfortunately, there are some downsides to the book. There were too many characters in the book. It was confusing to follow up. In one instance, the same name was used to describe two characters, and I found that really confusing. The transition between back stories was not smooth and made it hard to fully enjoy the book. One moment, we could be reading about Eadric, and the next, we are reading another person's story that is unrelated to the one we were previously reading. There were also some errors contained in the book. For these reasons, I give this book a four out of five star rating. I would have loved to rate it higher, but the reasons explained in this paragraph affected my enjoyment of the book.

I recommend this book to lovers of the fantasy and fiction genres. If you have a love of magic, rituals, and the like, you will enjoy reading this book.
