Review of Frustrated Witness!
In 1981, a terrible, heinous crime was committed, which left all who heard about it in utter shock and disbelief. Six-year-old Adam Walsh had been abducted from the toy section at Sears Mall. His mother had left him in the company of other children to play while she browsed through the lantern store, but when she returned, he was gone. While some kids pointed towards a door, another said they hadn't seen him, and all efforts to recover him that day proved futile.
Some days later, the decapitated head of little Adam Walsh was discovered. It was clear that the six-year-old had been murdered, and then came the million-dollar question, "by whom?" A barrage of witnesses provided information about the case, which the Hollywood Police Department was reportedly reluctant to handle. Some of the witnesses, of which this author is inclusive, are said to have seen Jeffery Dahmer, the Milwaukee serial killer, that faithful day at the mall, or some others had encounters with him around that time. However, some years later, another convict, Ottis Toole, confessed to the murder. The author disagrees with this; instead, he releases a ton of reasons, evidence, and witness accounts to support his claim. I suggest the reader read this piece for more information on the subject.
I must begin by commending the author for this beautiful expository account of the case of Adam Walsh. The level of dedication I observed in this piece was impressive because the author is just a witness to the case and is under no obligation to pursue the case as he did. I was outright impressed. The story of Adam Walsh is a sad one, even sadder based on how the Hollywood Police Department has handled the case, their reluctance to speak to witnesses, and even their wanting to pin the murder on Ottis even though he kept confessing and retracting his statement at numerous turns. The author does his research on the two suspects, Dahmer and Toole. In Dahmer's case, the author goes as far back as giving information on some of his weird behaviors during his days in the military, how he was discharged from the military, and even the assaults (sexual and physical) he met out on others during that period. Notes quoted by the author, including speeches, letters, and images, are added to aid the honesty of his statements.
He negates Toole's statements by saying that the timelines do not match concerning his whereabouts during that period; no witness could match his pictures with what they had seen, and also that he was not the type to go after children, as initially corroborated by Lucas, his ring member. I had no dislike for this story, as the author did not present it in a boring way. I spotted four minor errors throughout my reading. Due to this book's fantastic and detailed nature, supported by the above paragraphs, I'm rating Frustrated Witness! by Willis Morgan 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend it to audiences interested in non-fiction mysteries and those familiar with the original story who would like to know more about the subject. However, I must warn that this book contains gruesome tales of violence and sexual assaults. Individuals who are triggered by this can skip this book.
