G. Edward Martin's fictional novel Truth and Evil tells the story of a German soldier who reveals the true nature of evil in human beings. Like many young soldiers drafted into the army, this twenty-year-old was no exception, as he was ready to fight for his country. After two years of hard fighting, he found himself no longer a simple farmer but a heartless murderer. Until the day he found himself taking advantage of a young girl who was afraid, he was sure he was acting in the best interests of his country. This one wicked deed forever altered his life. Shortly after committing such a horrible deed, he is killed and finds himself standing before God, who sends him back to repeat that day until he gets it right.

There was absolutely nothing I disliked about this book. The narrative provides an enlightening firsthand account of God's love for all of his children and the consequences for those who harm them. The soldier's conviction that his acts were right even though they were still failing in God's eyes intrigued me. My favorite part was the moment God made him into the young girl he had wronged so he could experience her pain and fear.

Truth and Evil is a unique piece of writing. Every emotion we experience is covered in the story—you can be angry one moment and sad the next. Ultimately, I sympathized with the soldiers deceived into believing their actions were in their nation's best interest. In addition, it is suggested that the boys who joined the military have transformed into something other than humans.

I found no grammar errors in the book, indicating that it has been professionally edited. This is the first time I have read something quite like this. The author's creation will undoubtedly move every reader who picks up this masterpiece. For this reason, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

All adults who appreciate a good book and those who enjoy historical fiction should read this one. I also recommend it to readers who appreciate a good, fast-paced story.
