We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a captivating fantasy novel that follows the journey of Galen Bray, a young blacksmith who travels to the kingdom of Voulhire to inherit his great uncle's forge. Upon arrival, Galen meets the town's mayor and a mysterious old man, who tells him about the recent death of his great-uncle. Galen arrives and is greeted by the mayor of the town as well as an enigmatic elderly man who informs him about his great uncle's passing. In the capital city of Mianora, Vice Chancellor Indara is investigating the activities of Lord Meldorath, a strong wizard who is in jail for his crimes against the kingdom. Eldus Alderman, the newly appointed lord of Hillport, discovers a diary that once belonged to Lord Orlin and may hold clues to Meldorath's schemes.

The narrative then shifts to Marshus, the late Lord Meldorath's son, who is getting ready to deliver a speech in the town of Hillport. Marshus's sister, Isla, muses over her brother's remarks and the gossip about their father. The Riva Rohavi, a group that thinks the Voulhirian administration is up to something terrible, is also introduced in the book. Galen learns about the complexities of the politics of the kingdom and the impending danger posed by Meldorath's legacy as he gets used to his new life in Voulhire.

I like many aspects of this book. The highly detailed world of Voulhire, which is brought to life through vivid descriptions and well-developed characters, is one of the book's most endearing features. Through the deft integration of several tales, the author captivates readers with a sense of mystery and interest that lasts the entire book. The characters' personalities are established through well-written dialogue, which gives them an authentic and approachable vibe.

One of the book's other strong points is how the author builds suspense and tension without resorting to overly graphic language. The story's emphasis on the characters' political and magical schemes enhances the plot's nuance and sophistication. The author also delves into issues of loyalty, family, and the fallout from power, which gives the narrative more depth and content.

I don't dislike any aspect of this book. The novel is a strong beginning for the series, and readers are left wanting to know what will happen in the kingdom of Voulhire next. I didn't notice any errors while reading this book, which shows that it was exceptionally well-edited.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for the reasons I mentioned above. Overall, fantasy fans who appreciate rich world-building, nuanced characters, and sophisticated plots will find We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies to be a well-written and captivating book.
