Review of First Survivor
[Following is a volunteer review of "First Survivor" by Mark Unger.]
Cancer is one of the worst illnesses ever because of the damage it causes to both the patient and their loved ones. Imagine how devastated Mark and Mary Ellen were when they found out that their little boy of three years was diagnosed with cancer and had little to no chance of survival. It all started when they noticed that Lou was walking strangely, and when they ran tests, they found it to be a rare disease. Although devastated, Mark was eager to find a way to save his son. He documented every move they made, which included the tests they ran and the medication Lou received. All these and more make up this book, which shows Lou’s battle against cancer.
Louis’ journey was emotional. Sometimes I would ask myself why he had to go through what he went through. It seemed overwhelming. However, my greatest joy was seeing his parents do all they could to save their baby boy. They documented, researched, and were readily available to make sure their boy was better. It just showed how much love these parents had for Louis. This book will serve as a form of encouragement to readers facing a similar fate. It also teaches readers the importance of correct documentation and research. The journey to save Louis was not only a miracle; it was also a breakthrough for the medical world.
There was nothing to dislike about this amazing book. It was great to see the pictures of Louis’ progress. It brought warmth and a smile to my face. Even though there were a few errors, this book was professionally edited. I rate First Survivor: The Impossible Childhood Cancer Breakthrough by Mark Unger 5 out of 5 stars because of all the reasons I previously listed. I recommend this book to people who are faced with cancer or any other form of medical disease. This book will be a symbol of hope for them.
