The Rings of Hesaurun by Peter Harrett begins in January 2431 BCE, when a strange rumbling awakens Pearse and his family. Pearse and his thirteen-year-old son, Tierney, set out to discover the cause of the rumbling and soon discovered a "glass fish" was the cause of the rumbling, as well as what they saw that fell from the sky. When Pearse goes for a closer inspection of the "glass fish,"  a bolt of energy hits him, sending him flying to the ground.

Valerie Dunne, at the age of four, witnesses the tragic murder of her parents by one of the ring bearers, Stone. Years later, now living with her aunt and uncle, Angie and Jim, she has been having disturbing nightmares, which give her sleepless nights. When she turned eighteen, she was informed about her destiny, which she never knew she must fulfill. In order to protect her from Stone, she is taken by Paris out of Arlington to a place unknown by Angie and Jim, away from her old life, where he is to train her and give her information about the rings and how important it is for her to fulfill her destiny.
In November 1938 CE, Chad Evers gives Stone a job; while doing the job, Stone discovers something about Chad and kills him. What led Stone to kill Chad? Did Pearse die, or did Tierney somehow find a way to save him? Did Valerie Dunne fulfil her destiny or succumb to fear and abandon her purpose? Find out by reading this book for yourself.

The Rings of Hesaurun by Peter Harrett is such a mesmerizing sci-fi from start to finish. The way the story jumps between major characters in the book in different chapters makes it much easier to understand the flow of the story. I will say my favorite character is Jack Dylan. He was a secondary character who was only mentioned in one chapter, but he won my heart with his sweetness and the way he defended Valerie when Finn made fun of her. Another character I love is Corell Paris, who is a fun person. What happened to his kids and family was truly devastating and sad. I also like the cat, Orson, who is always present to help keep Valerie company.

If you love science fiction novels, this is definitely the book for you. Even though it ended with a cliffhanger, it is filled with twists that will have you hooked on the story. The only thing I disliked was that it ended with a cliffhanger, but I'm looking forward to reading book 2. I would gladly rate this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars because it was professionally edited, and nothing needs improvement.

I see various tropes mixed up in this novel, from comin-of-age to the protagonist with a destiny. A terrible threat needs to be dealt with, and it seems this is just the beginning. I'll look into this series. Thank you for your great review!

This was a really immersive story. The setting was so vivid, I could picture everything like I was there. The ending left me thinking, which I always appreciate in a good book.
