Matthew Tysz's "We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies" is a gripping preface to the fantasy series We Are Voulhire. The story begins with Galen Bray, a young man escaping the war-torn Land of the Princes. His journey leads him to the Kingdom of Voulhire, where he inherits a blacksmith's forge from his late uncle. Despite the kingdom's reputation for prosperity and a golden age, trouble brews beneath its surface. Galen must navigate the challenges of his new life while facing the darker forces at play.
The book is well-structured, featuring various characters and a richly developed world. Tysz introduces a variety of perspectives, from the benevolent King Wilhelm Arcolo to the malevolent mage Meldorath. Each character contributes to the intricate plot, adding depth and intrigue to the story. The setting of Voulhire is vividly described, with a blend of medieval and Renaissance elements that create a unique backdrop for the unfolding drama.

One of the standout aspects of this book is its detailed world-building. The author has crafted a believable, immersive fantasy world that draws readers in. Using maps and a glossary adds to the reader's understanding and enjoyment, making it easier to follow the complex plot. The character development is also noteworthy; each character is well-rounded and plays a significant role in the story's progression.

There is nothing major to dislike about this book. However, while lacking a table of contents and numbered chapters might be a minor inconvenience, it does not significantly detract from the overall experience. The book is excellently edited, with no noticeable grammatical errors or typos. The writing is clear and engaging, ensuring that readers stay hooked from start to finish.

I rate "We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies" 5 out of 5 stars because the author has delivered a well-crafted and entertaining fantasy novel that successfully combines adventure, magic, and political intrigue. The story is engaging, and the world-building is impressive. I highly recommend this book to fantasy fans and those who enjoy intricate, well-developed narratives. The mature themes and complexity make it suitable for older readers, and I am eager to continue with the rest of the series.
