"We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz is a book that combines political intrigue, magical storytelling, and human adventures. The main character of the story is Galen Bray, a young man who leaves his birthplace, the Land of Princes, to start over in the Voulhire kingdom, away from the chaos he finds there. Upon inheriting his late uncle's blacksmithing business, Galen soon learns that Voulhire is a place of intricate power dynamics, enigmatic enigmas, and impending danger.

Matthew Tysz writes his story with deftness, seamlessly integrating multiple narrative perspectives to create a completely realised scenario. His combination of first- and third-person narratives allows readers to connect with Galen's personal growth while also learning about Voulhire's greater political and magical landscape.

An area that stands out for this book is its character development. Having come from a war-torn homeland to the busy kingdom of Voulhire, Galen Bray makes an engaging and heartfelt protagonist. Tysz does well to give us glimpses of this world he has created, as we see through his eyes the kingdom's cities full of life and death and their customs, which are centuries old, while at the same time he does not fail to give us enough details so that we can form our own pictures ourselves. ‘Voulhire’ feels like living it, even if it’s far too big to visit them all. The novel also has an advantageous rhythm as it combines action as well as suspense with character-driven moments.

One particular character I found myself particularly invested in was Lord Eldus, a lover of fantasy literature. His dedication to reviving Hillport and serving his people despite unbelievable difficulties really touched me deeply. There was nothing that I disliked about the book. It is exceptionally well-edited. There were no grammatical errors.

"We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" is a captivating and well-crafted introduction to Matthew Tysz's fantasy series. With its rich world-building, well-developed characters, and intricate plot, the book is a must-read for fans of the genre. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a fantasy novel that combines action, magic, and moral complexity in a richly imagined world.
