Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Matthew Tysz's "We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" introduces readers to a new fantasy epic set in the vast and intricate world of Voulhire. The story follows Galen Bray, a young man who flees the war-ravaged Lands of Princes for a new life in peaceful Voulhire. Nevertheless, on arriving in his new abode, Galen becomes embroiled in the sinister depths of Voulhire, where age-old sorcery, power games, and unseen powers undermine the vulnerable stability of the kingdom.
Matthew Tysz’s attention to intricate detail is seen in his book "We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies," with this novel being an excellent example of world-building writing that brings the Kingdom of Voulhire to life. His descriptions are graphic, painting a picture of a land that is both beautiful and dangerous. The narrative structure is unique; it adopts a multi-perspective approach, which enables us to see through different characters’ thoughts and understand what they think as events unfold themselves before us.
One of the most impressive parts of "We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" is its elaborate world-building. Tysz does not merely make a universe; he creates an ecology of cultures, governments, and histories that are both big and plausible. The inclusion of maps and a dictionary is a brilliant addition that helps the reader navigate this vast cosmos. Character growth is also noteworthy, with Galen's transformation from a naive refugee to an important actor in Voulhire's destiny being particularly compelling. There was nothing that I disliked about the book. It is exceptionally well-edited. There were no grammatical errors.
What resonated with me most was Galen’s journey as an immigrant in a foreign land. His initial hope and optimism, followed by the stark realisation that Voulhire’s peace is not without its shadows, mirrored the complex and often difficult reality faced by those who seek a new life in unfamiliar territories.
"We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" is a strong start to a promising fantasy series. Matthew Tysz has crafted a world that is both enchanting and dangerous, populated by characters whose motives are as intricate as the world they inhabit. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a story with deep political intrigue and a touch of magic. I rate this novel 5 out of 5 stars.
