David’s Space Flight – Waking Up by Sharron L Hillman-Dwyer is a short story for children. Julia wakes up David, who is sleeping at his desk, so they can work on a project that needs to be finished in an hour and presented to their class the following day. David suggests some ideas, but Julia does not find them interesting enough. Their friend Annie helps Julia understand the importance of creative thinking to make the project more engaging. Julia then brainstorms with David to think of a unique idea for their presentation. The book explores themes of science, creative thinking, and teamwork.

The story is told through dialogue and colorful illustrations. It is a picture book, and I think the talk about coming up with a creative idea for presentation is very well conveyed without using many words. This makes the book easily comprehensible for young readers. There is also an element of kindness displayed when Annie tells Julia about why David was sleeping in class. The book beautifully emphasizes teamwork and cooperation.

I enjoyed reading this book and flipping through the colorful pages. The story kept me engaged from the beginning, and I was curious about what the characters would do next. I also appreciated the appealing exercises at the end, which are great for keeping children engaged for a long time. The book is educational and encourages children to think and discuss.

There was nothing that I disliked about the story. I was expecting more from the story instead of where it ended. But then I thought that was just the author’s style, and the ending was still satisfactory. The book needed better editing, as I found several errors. I, thus, give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The large pictures, simple dialogues, and the short storyline made the book ideal for young readers.
