Any Tracy Chevalier fans out there?

Post by chrissy »

I have read Virgin Blue and Girl with a Pearl Earring. Liked both. I have The Lady and the Unicorn on hold at the library. I have seen mixed reviews for the Lady and the Unicorn and I'm now wondering if I should read it. Any Chevalier fans out there? Which ones did you like and didn't like by her?

I've read her, and I have enjoyed all the books I have read by her. Still, I would not call myself a fan. I think the books would have to stand out as some of the best I read for me to call myself a fan.

Loveloveloved Virgin Blue. Her writing is so powerful. Not always an easy read, but very compelling.

Yes, I enjoy her books, I love the way she brings historical figures back to life. "Remarkable Creatures" is a remarkable novel and gives due respect to Mary Anning a fossil-obsessed woman who made some important 19th century discoveries yet was almost ignored in her time. There is a "Girl With A Pearl Earring" review on the Book Discussions Forum.

Tracy Chevalier is one of my favorite authors. I think that she is amazing. I consider her to be a 'dark chocolate' author because I love to savor her books. The Lady and the Unicorn was not my favorite of her books, but it was still very enjoyable. The Virgin Blue was probably my favorite followed by Falling Angels. I very recently finished reading Remarkable Creatures which was another magnificent work. The only book that I haven't ready by her yet is Burning Bright and that is calling to me from my bookshelf. I actually wrote a review on Remarkable Creatures on my personal blog, PM me if you'd like to check it out!

Loved the Virgin Blue. I really felt that one. One also read Falling Angels, and that one was good too. The last one I read was Remarkable Creatures, but it didn't really hit with me. It was good writing and fairly interesting story of the two women doing things in a "man's world." But for some reason it just kind of dragged on for me. Those are the only ones I've read of hers. I know, *gasp* I've never read Girl with the Pearl Earring. :lol2: Still me favorite of her that I HAVE read is The Virgin Blue.

I've read almost all of Chevalier's work. I really enjoyed her earlier works like Girl with a Pearl Earring and Falling Angels were my two favorites. She was an author I would always make a point to read when her new book came out. However, the one that ended it all for me was Remarkable Creatures. I read about half the book and was so incredibly bored and disappointed I had to move on. I hate to do that to an enjoyable author but the book was just unbearable. I've seen some of her more recent books like The Last Runaway and At the Edge of the Orchard have received decent reviews so I may try to get back into her novels at some point. If you read either of those let me know what you think!
