Lann Dàn - Blades of Destiny by James Raquepau was a fantastic, mystical read. Weaving in parts of Gaelic language and warrior traditions, James paints the main character, Breanna Ban Morna, in a ‘destined to be hero’ light. Throughout this fantasy novel, we see Breanna become Erin's hero, who is destined to be a legendary warrior for her Gael country. We learn more and more about Gaelic gods and goddesses, and Breanna is eventually chosen by Danu, the Mother Goddess, to seek for that which was lost.

The quest is to find the rumored long blades, rightly named Lann Dàn, the Blades of Destiny, made of oak and diamonds. These swords are not just any swords but magic swords that help conquer any enemy wielding magic.

The author creates an immersive story: introducing magic, a possible love interest, a feud between deities, and so much more. In early chapters, we learn that before Breanna's birth, a geas, or as Google defines it, “an obligation imposed on a person,” was bestowed upon her by her mother. Though both a blessing and a curse, Breanna makes the most of this consuming desire to destroy the neighboring warlord, Hakon Skadi, by practicing hour after hour with her long swords and using the void, which seems to be a magic ability used to predict a person's next move so that you can always be one step ahead. Breanna continues to develop through the read by becoming that firm, steadfast character that all around her desire to have in their lives.

Through all the twists and turns of this book, all I wanted was more. The author, James Raquepau, in my opinion, did an incredible job of drawing me in and keeping me engaged. With minimal errors and great writing style, I have nothing negative to say about his work. 5 out of 5, in my opinion, is what he deserves for this book.
