Tony Jeton Selimi was born in Gostivar and forced to fight in the civil war during his early adult years. This conflict became a major catalyst for his personal growth. Selimi has overcome many obstacles, both personally and professionally. Facing these challenges head-on, he became a world-renowned transformational coach. He has written four books, with another currently in development. His fourth book, A Path to Excellence, “invites you on a journey to realize your full potential, clarify your vision, and dare to achieve your dreams.”

A Path to Excellence is a guide for readers to overcome limiting beliefs and challenges in eight core areas: spiritual, mental, physical, emotional, vocational, financial, familial, and social. This book repeatedly groups concepts into sets of eight—eight core life areas, the Octagon of Excellence’s Transitional Cycles, and the Octagon’s 8 C’s. With so many references to the number eight, it can be easy for the reader to lose track of which group contains the blueprint for success. As I read, I believe I was able to discern the framework which Selimi was working from. The book is structured around eight principles based on the 8 C's: clarify, commit, confront, correct, consult, collaborate, compliment, and celebrate. Within these principles, Selimi applies the eight Transitional Cycles to help guide decisions in each of these key areas.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I appreciate the practical advice and actionable steps, but the organization is difficult to follow. The repeated use of groups of eight and the layout created some ambiguity, and the Transitional Cycles were not applied to all 8 C's. I deducted a star because of this lack of clarity and a handful of typos I found throughout the book.

The phrase “Octagon of Excellence” is Selimi's original framework. It is grounded in New Age philosophies such as karma, alignment with universal vibration, and inner mastery while including elements from Buddhism and Hinduism. I found some of the practical advice in A Path to Excellence, especially the emphasis on personal responsibility and growth, to be of some benefit. As a Christian, I approach life from a biblical worldview rather than an energy-based regenerative cycle perspective. I appreciate the author's desire to inspire and transform lives, but I hold different beliefs about the source and nature of personal growth. Readers from the Christian faith should read with discernment and be aware that the “Octagon of Excellence” does not align with a biblical perspective. This book will likely benefit readers who appreciate a New Age approach to self-improvement.
