writers block

Post by Sophius »

I have had writers block since the beggining of november, and I honestly must say it is quite upsetting. I am unable to derive any inspiration and the quality of my writing is seriously diminished. Previously, this only extended into the fiction that I tried to write, but today it caused me to fail a final at school( it was an essay). This gravely concerns me, as this will seriously hurt my grade in school, meaning that I need to resolve this as soon as possible. Does anyone know of any techiques for dispersing writers block?

I find a lot of the time when i get writer's block it's because I'm trying too hard. I just try to take a break, and approach my next attempts with a very mellow care-free attitude. A lot of the times the best writting comes out when you don't try.
Also reading great author's gets me hyped to write my own story.

For me, I get obsessed with needing it to be right, and knowing it isn't. Like I think to myself, "This concept isn't good. I need a better idea." As a result, I put off writing until I have some good brainstorming.

I think the solution to that scenario is to just go ahead and write with the subpar idea, and you can always make edits later on. In fact, I find that if I read something I've written, I usually come up with good ideas for improvements while reading it.

Yep, this is good advice. Alternatively, go watch some classic cinema.
But just don't worry about it - the more you fret, the worse the block gets.

Take a break and do something else. Maybe get a new hobby and focus on that for a few weeks. Ideas may come to you then. Also getting involved in social circles helps generate new ideas.

I've slowed down to a crawl. Last month I put out a whole chapter, after re-editing for the fourth time. But it's hard when you are promoting 11 other books. Strange that I do my best writing at 3 o'clock in the AM when everyone else is asleep and the house is quiet. I have been trying to finish my latest book since April. Last year.

The best way to counter this is to say to yourself "I prohibit myself from writing anything for a month!"

You'll see that you won't even probably last the whole month, as inspiration will start flowing in like a wild river from the cold mountains.

I used to write constantly. Every day almost I would write something whether it be a poem, a paragaph, several pages, or just a haiku. Then one day I just went blank. I couldn't write so much as a sentence. It was very frustrating! I didn't write for so long I all but forgot about it altogether. Nevertheless, I always carried a pen and notebook with me everywhere, just in case.

Then one day, five years later, sitting on the beach, all of a sudden it came rushing back, like a giant wave I didn't see coming. One line after another flooding my brain. When I was finally done writing, I had a four part poem sitting in front of me. I read it back to myself not beleiving I had wrote those words. And then I prayed! Long and hard, thanking God that I had remembered my passion.

While I'm not as readily inspired as I once was, I am glad that I have once again found the beuty and release of writing.
