Do you like travel plans that accompany adventure and mystery? If you answered yes, then Inca and her detective company are going to take you on a remarkable journey. This mystery takes the reader to the tropical island of Sri Lanka where the family enjoys the turtle laden white-sand beaches. On the beaches, Inca and her siblings meet Rani the turtle and later the mighty elephants that live next door. These loved cats and one pet hamster also experience the local train and get to visit the city where naughty monkeys are plentiful and historical treasures are observed. While on holiday Inca learns an ancient sword was stolen from the historical museum that they strategically planned to visit. This crime sets in motion the Inca detective company and devoted friends to solve the mystery.
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat written by R.F. Kristi is a delightful and exciting children’s book. Even though this is the seventh book in a published series, it does stand on its own. This fascinating story is superbly written and in diary format. There were no editing errors that I could find. The few illustrations available were colorful, pleasing and added life to the written word. The main character Inca a Siamese cat is well-spoken, lovable and snoopy. She considers herself the Queen of Kitties. Her siblings Fromage and Cara are supporting characters that enhance the story. Another essential character is Terrance the dog who taught her the successful tricks of the trade.
Additional locations like the old ruins, museums, and plantations that are introduced not merely provide entertainment but also historical facts. This book is not only enjoyable but educational. Inca’s diary entries are very descriptive and thorough. This writing style naturally allows the reader to clearly imagine and be easily transported into the tale. The published author did a great job in metering the tale. The lively tempo naturally allowed the action within the story to build just in the proper time to generate the suspense needed. The entire story from beginning to end is engaging and simple for the reader to understand.
I would recommend Diary of a Snoopy Cat to children in third to fourth grade. Second graders will need help with pronouncing larger words in the text if they select this book. Most third and fourth graders should not have a problem reading this book. It would equally be a good short read for fifth graders. I would also recommend the book to adults who genuinely like to read bedtime stories. It has enough playable characters, necessary action, and charming pictures for caretakers to animate this fantastic story with creative voices or puppets. This book would be unenjoyable to children or adults that include animals as the leading characters and involves a mystery.
I have rated this book 4 out of 4 stars. I rated this book a 4 due to its excellent editing and well-written story. In my opinion, the only fault I found in this book was the few illustrations included. If possible, I would have rated the book 3.5 stars out of 4. A few more pictures would have efficiently delivered an even more engaging tale. In large this book would be a significant addition to any school, teachers or family’s library.
