The Simpsons- all over?

So, The Simpsons may have been cancelled due to a dispute over the payment of the voice actors and actresses. But apparently they have managed to get another 2 seasons out of it. As a kid i loved the show, it was fantastic and iconic but after about 2004, the show really started to stink. Copying more popular shows like Family Guy, turning all the jokes into slapstick, relying too much on guest names, even the animation changed and the jokes were painfully unfunny. Put it out of its misery i say, the show has made billions, the people behind it are rich and the show created a legacy. Shame that one of my favorite ever shows went the way of corporate greed...

Hey there SKM. I could not agree more with you. The early series of Simpsons were priceless. You can watch them over and over again. Monty Burns used to have me in tears. Much to my dismay I think the series went way past its use-by date and the later series really are nothing but a poor shadow of the first. Still at least we will always have the early days to return to and laugh at.

Yes, the episodes from 1990 to 2002 are classics and can be watched over and over again but these days i wont even watch a new episode, theres no point i just know its going to be complete rubbish, i gave it up to 2008 until i couldnt bear it anymore- whole episodes revolved around a single unfunny joke, the storylines got all serious and topical- suicide and adoption were touched on. I remember an episode with Bart and Lisa fighting the postal staff from a carboard castle which was done like a fantasy film and went on for about 10 minutes (half the show!), i was so disgusted i tuned out for good...as Family Guy and American Dad got more popular, The Simpsons had to copy them but it didnt fit right for the show and the result was apalling...i guess we have the memories, Gannon

Well I must admit I abandoned ship before you did, you did well to last as long as you did. You are so right, you could see the writing on the wall as episodes got worse and did not have even an ounce of the magic that it once had. As you say we have the memories and I am looking for blue-ray copies of the early stuff.

I have the dvd boxsets of seasons 1 to 12, after that it got ridiculous, im sure they have blu-ray boxsets by now, they didnt actually start selling Simpsons boxsets until about 2005 so it was quite a wait.

I've found that once a television show abandons it's original concept, it's pretty much useless and should be halted. The most notable examples to my memory are [the original] "Battlestar Galactica," "B.J. And The Bear," and [again, the original] "Knight Rider" [incidentally, all Glen Larson productions; seemed to be a pattern there, one would think].

It's a pity, but legendary cartoon is almost over.
The only way out of this abd situation is to have new plots and ideas for future series as well. to my opnion it would wonderful to let the amateurs write some plots for the new Simpson's episodes!

The Simpsons demise is typical of the way television is going these days. However, it has left a great legacy, an indelible imprint on the psyche of millions. Homer Simpsons catch cry "D'oh!" has been trademarked and the word itself has appeared in the Oxford English Dictionary. Almost immortal!
