Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi is an exciting children’s story about a group of detectives. Their company is called Inca & Company, and consists of four cats, two dogs, and a hamster. The story is written as a journal from the perspective of Inca, who is the main character as well as the leader of the company. This story starts as their mom (the human in their life) creates a new cheese and gets the opportunity to present it in a French patisserie competition held in Seoul, Korea. As they travel to Korea, they face challenges of sabotage, crossing the border dividing the North and South and reuniting friends. Will they make it safely across the boarder? Will they be caught? Will Mom be able to present her precious cheese? Receive answers to these questions and many more as you journey to Korea with this unlikely group of detectives and their mom.

I enjoyed the diversity of cultures and animals that will enable this book to be suitable for a wide range of children. French, English, Korean and Russian were used in different parts of the story. The facts that were covered in geographic terms will help children further expand their knowledge of Korea. Furthermore, I loved the adorable characters that were beautifully illustrated throughout the book.

The only aspect I feel could’ve been improved, is that it seemed to drag a little before it became more exciting. That being said I still think it was an amazing book, that was definitely professionally edited.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars, as a result of the beautiful illustrations, the learning possibilities, and the flawlessly written storyline.

I recommend this book for readers who enjoy an exciting adventure, who is interested in travel and exploring new countries, and most importantly loves animals. I believe this book would be best suited for 3rd-5th graders, considering their abilities to read and focus on longer stories. I also believe this would be an invaluable addition to any school or class library.
