The Sparrow is the first book in the 'Emaji Nation' series by Denna M. Davis. The book is a brilliant piece of sci-fi. The writer's ability to create a parallel universe without missing out to mention the minute details about it is what steals the show. There are a lot of characters in the story and every character is unique in their own way. At times it may read like a fairy tale but it's a lot more than that.
The story is about a sixteen year old girl named Amanda. She is staying with her grandparents after she has been expelled from school. Her grandparents open the portal to a different realm and her grandmother asks her to follow her. Amanda is surprised at first but as curiosity takes over her, Amanda follows her grandmother into the portal and soon finds herself in a different planet altogether. There she comes across a man with wings. The man introduces himself as Solomon and says that he is one of the protectors of the sky.
As the two get to know each other, Solomon discovers something about Amanda and he is very happy about it. Solomon takes her to the Tower which is the place where all the leaders of the planet stays. There Amanda learns about the reason behind her presence in that planet and the impending threat lurking over her.
Will she be able to fulfill her mission on this new planet? Or will she fall a prey? What is her mission? What made Solomon so happy?
The story is brilliantly written and the writer's hardwork should be appreciated. The colorful and detailed description about every object makes this book so interesting. The story doesn't lose it's flow at any point. The best part of the story is when Solomon and Amanda first come across each other. The reader is made to imagine every scene and we cannot really tell what will happen next. I give this book 4 out of 4 stars.
One thing I felt weird was that Amanda is never really shocked by seeing all the magical stuffs as you would expect someone to be. But that doesn't take away anything from the story. The story will be continued in the second book of the series and I'm eagerly waiting to read the second book. The story has no missing dots and that avoids confusing the readers. I'm really happy that I chose to review this book.
There were no grammatical errors. The story will be loved by fans of sci-fi and fantasy. Also fans of guardians of the galaxy will enjoy reading this marvellous book.
