I have, but it is rare. I do not actually remember the reason, but best guess is that it either had food spilled on it, was involved in a flood and could not be repaired, or I somehow acquired it sight-unseen, and It was somehow offensive to me so that I did not want to pass it on, even to the local library.

Periodically i have thrown books away that were worn out or destroyed by my kids. Only once did i throw one out strictly because it was so offensive that i couldn't bear the thought of anyone else sullying their hands with it. It was that horrendous.

No, not that I can recall. I usually donate to the local Goodwill when I want to reduce the size of my library.

I don't personally remember ever throwing out a book unless I came across one that was pretty much destroyed and unable to be fixed. Even then I'm not sure I've actually done that.

The only books I have ever thrown away are the ones that my daughter tore in to a million pieces before I could stop her. :-[:-[ Otherwise all my books go to goodwill or some other charity.

I have raised three kids who love to read. They have always been surrounded by books, but when they were little some of the books did not survive their curious hands. I consider it a small price to pay to have kids who love to read. But yes, I have thown away a lot of books. Most were cheap children's books that just fell apart, but some were ones I hated to part with. But if a book is destroyed (meaning you can no longer read it), then it goes in the trash.

I have thrown out a few self help books before my friends and family helped me move. I would have judged harshly by my family.

There was one years ago that I wanted to throw away because it was so disgusting. Unfortunately it was a library book and had to be returned. I suppose there was some one out there thinking it was funny.

Never. Instead of throwing a book away give it to somebody who might appreciate it more. Even better donate it to your local library so that more people could read it.

I don't throw books away, but I pass books along to friends I think will enjoy them. :)

Sometimes I've had to. There's no room and the book has been so worn with age that it wasn't worth taking to a local charity store.

No! And I never will!

BUT, I did see this really cool cabinet idea on HGTV today! This group found old hardcover books in the trash and used a sharp saw to neatly cut the spines off. They then decorated the shelf with the spines, gluing them to the cabinet doors and such. The end result was pretty cool!

I will say, however, that it pained me to think about the fact that those books could never be read again...so, while the idea is neat, I could never personally destroy a book in order to create a cabinet like that in my home.
