What is your favorite broke food? What meal do you turn to the most when you are getting close to payday and are almost out of groceries? Mine is boxed mac and cheese. :)

I go for ramen. It's cheap and versatile. Put cheese and spices in it to make it better. You can add green onions, chicken, and egg to it to make it even better. That's assuming you have the ingredients.

I love it. I like to put cheese on my ramen too. I haven't tried chicken, egg or green onions yet. That sounds good. I think I'll try that. I like spaghetti as well. I like to put a lot of garlic powder on it.

Knorr pasta sides - they are so inexpensive and delicious or if I'm feeling nostalgic I find pizza lunchables on sale for a dollar. I do love the extra cheese. In college we would stock those in our fridge along with gogurts. Quick and easy meals.

Traditional Japanese ramen you get at a restaurant here in Japan often has boiled egg, green onions, bamboo shoots, cabbage, bean sprouts, slices of pork or beef, seaweed sheets, and so much more. Granted, there's not all of those in one bowl. It depends on the type of ramen you get. Fresh ramen is so much better than the Top Ramen and Maruchan or Cup Noodle options in the U.S. Heck, even the instant ramens and cup ramens at Japanese groceries are better than the ones we have in the U.S.

My favorite cheap go to meals are flour pancakes with peanut butter, a pot of beans or grilled cheese sandwiches. Oatmeal is another cheap go to for us.

Leftover mix - combining different odds and ends in the fridge together. I've used leftover pasta, a mix of several different veggie sides, sometimes low sodium broth or soup, and some leftover meat to make an unique blend to my taste.

Breakfast for dinner is usually a good standby too. Some grocery stores have eggs on sale every few weeks and I get a carton or two if the date is far out enough. Scrambled eggs with seasoning and cheese are great for protein.

When I was growing up it was always a joke that my mom was craving a pot of beans and I asked her if we were poor again. It still holds true now that I have my own family, if we are getting low I bust out the beans and long grain white rice lol.

Goulash is hands-down my favorite cheap dish. Marinara sauce, elbow pasta, and whatever meat'sauce been forgotten in the freezer. Yum!

Rice and beans...or I start pulling the game out of the chest freezer. My husband doesn't hunt, but his friends are always dropping off fresh deer, wild goose, and sometimes fish.
